Youth Ambassador

Greetings to our recent Deep River Science Academy (DRSA) alumni.  As participants in our summer program you all know what the DRSA has to offer and the benefits you’ve received from being accepted into the program. The best ambassadors for the DRSA are its former students as they have the enthusiasm and first- hand knowledge of this unique opportunity for science enrichment combined with summer camp…certainly very unique and one of the few of its type offered in Canada.  Alumni can very effectively let other students know that the DRSA is a great way to spend the first part of summer!

After each summer program, we send promotional literature and information to each of our students to deliver to their home school.  This way we know the material will reach the guidance and science departments of these feeder-schools, to ensure that other high school students will learn about the program.

Going the extra step of being a Youth Ambassador for the DRSA is quite important to our success at encouraging students to apply to the program.  The Youth Ambassador effectively becomes the face of the DRSA. A school presentation is given to interested students and teachers as well as any parents that might want more information about the Summer Science Immersion offered through the DRSA .  The DRSA wants the presentation to be professional and encourages the use of anecdotes that highlight the program in a positive manner.  We ask ambassadors to bring in your own experiences with camp life and their research project, while being informative and upbeat in their presentation style.

A presentation package will be provided for you and includes:

  • CD with the presentation in Power Point
  • A paper copy of the presentation including extra slides with notes that would be good to mention for the respective slide.  These extra slides have no background colour, while the presentation slides have a teal background
  • Copies of the application form, flyers and information booklets as well as a student-attendee information sheet
  • A set of 2012 posters (in miniature form)

In thanks for your contribution to the ongoing work of the DRSA, we provide you with a small honorarium, community hours for your high school diploma and a certificate for being a DRSA Youth Ambassador.

If you’re interested in this and I hope you will be, please give us a call or send us an email and we can mail the power point disk to you with additional information on giving a presentation.

Thank you once again for considering this active way of volunteering for the Deep River Science Academy.  We truly believe that your personal experience with all aspects of the DRSA will add so much more to the presentation.

Best wishes to you all,
Karen Sullivan
